Troubled Sleep II: The Revenge

And…just like that, they’re back. That’s right, amigos…the sleepless nights have returned to our house. I dunno if it means she’s getting ready for another growth spurt or what, but, Greta just will not go to bed. We tried putting her down earlier, we tried later, and last night, we tried really, really late (not by choice, I might add) but nothing is working.

Complicating matters even more is the fact that ever since we came home from Oregon, she will not go to sleep in her own bed. It’s “Mommy’s bed” or nothing for her and seeing as we are about to spend ten days in New York City, where we will no doubt be sharing a bed, it seemed kinda pointless to break her of the “Mommy’s bed” habit now. Or was it? I mean, should we have forced her into her own bed for two weeks between trips? I dunno…all I know is that I’m so fucking tired I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open today. Seriously, I look like a sleepy-eyed dog cartoon character…

The one good thing is that once she falls asleep in our bed, she stays asleep, even when I move her back to her bed before I go to sleep. Of course, last night, that didn’t happen. I did the swap out from our bed to her crib, then about half an hour later was awoken by the sound of her SCREAMING. Holy shit, I just about wet the bed. So scary! Especially amplified over the video monitor. Yikes…

So, I run back in there and she says there was a bug buzzing in her ear and that there were bugs all over her comforter too. Hmmm…if that’s true, then Daddy is grabbing you and running the other way, I think to myself. But, like the brave Daddy that I am (ha!) I check her bed for bugs and, thankfully, find none. So, guess where Little-Miss-Vivid-Nightmares ended up sleeping? That’s right…squished between me and mommy in “Mommy’s bed”.

Oh, and here’s the best part, she woke up way earlier than normal this morning in a horrible, spitting-mad mood. Ah, the joys of parenthood…

“Karma Police, arrest this man…”

Note to the person who just royally screwed me over (again!) this afternoon. You have messed with this SAHD for the very last time, amigo. The Karma Police have been informed of your actions and as my new favorite movie character, “Machete”, would say: “You just fucked with the wrong Mexican!” Heads will roll…

“Grey Gardens” Greta

Spent most of the morning trying to convince Greta that her gigantic, two-and-a-half-year-old noggin is just too big to fit into her favorite 6-12 month-sized dress. And lemme tell ya, it was brutal. Tears, yelling, throwing, more tears, and that was only on my end. So, finally, I give in and let her wear her favorite dress exactly the way she wants to.

And this, my friends, is what it looked like. Eat your heart out, Little Edie!

The future is now…

OK, so, over the weekend, I totally visited the future, and you know what, it’s today. Seriously! After dinner Sunday night one of us shouted: “Hey, let’s rent ‘Rango’ tonight!” So, I call our video store — yes, we still go to an independent, non-chain video store and it’s awesome! — and ask them if they have the movie. Unfortunately, it’s already checked out. Suckage…

Normally, that’s where this story would end because I’ll only go into a Blockbuster Video if it’s on fire, and there are cute, baby animals inside in need of rescue. But tonight, I decided to try the future instead. So, I Googled “Red Box” on my iPhone, downloaded the free App, clicked here, clicked there, and in less than a minute a copy of “Rango” (on Blu-Ray no less!) was waiting for me to pick it up at my local Red Box stand. I shit you not, it was that easy. All I had to do was pick it up.

And ten minutes and $1.65 later, we were watching the movie on our TV at home. I swear to God, if that’s not the future, than I don’t know what is…insanity!

“Desperate Housewives” to end in May 2012

Oh, man…the empty space on our Tivo just keeps getting bigger. Earlier this year, we dropped the wildly-erratic “Glee” from our Season Pass, “Oprah” went the way of “Martha” — actually, not really, we just don’t get the Hallmark Channel, so, no more “Martha” for us — and now comes the news today that “Desperate Housewives” will end it’s epic, eight year run this coming May.

As a long-time viewer, I gotta say, this is probably a good thing. I mean, last season wasn’t the worst they’ve ever had — I think that was the flash-forward-five-years season with the “fat” Gabrielle, so stupid!! — but it had some really crazy shit going on, and quickly fell to the bottom of our “watch right away” list. In fact, we still have nine unwatched episodes saved on the Tivo as I type.

So, while I am sad to see the show go — in their glory days, it was hard to find better writing, acting and directing anywhere on TV, I mean it, “Housewives” rocked! — I think it’s cool that they know they’re ending in May. That should give them plenty of time to wrap the show up nicely…ahem, or not. Either way, we’ll be watching the action on Wisteria Lane till the bitter end!

Super Thursday!

Yay, we actually beat the Thursday curse today! That’s right, I didn’t think about the way I was heartlessly dumped by my Meetup group once today. Well, OK, maybe I did, you know…once or twice. But, the good news is I didn’t dwell on it…so, yay for moving on!

Beat the heat this morning watching “Aladdin” (again!), Greta and I had an epic pillow fight/M&M party in the bedroom, got in some quality park time in the afternoon, and actually ate a freaking salad for lunch. Either I am totally turning into a woman, or Thursdays are back on track, baby!

Yee-haw!

Cinematic sweating…

Just finished walking in place while watching my gorgeous new Criterion Collection Blu-Ray of “The Darjeeling Limited” and man, am I beat. Yes, I walk in place to exercise these days. Not the best form of weight loss for the modern SAHD of size, but, hey, it’s better than nothing and it does make me feel good. Especially when I’m walking and sweating with a modern cinematic gem like Wes Anderson’s epically beautiful, “Darjeeling”.

Wow, I loved this movie when I first saw it and watching it again tonight, shit! What can I say? It might just be the perfect movie. Funny, sweet, weird, sad, and on top of all that, it’s set entirely in India. G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!  Seriously, I wanna invite the world into my living room to look at the picture quality of this Blu-Ray print. I dare ya not to gasp at the crispness, I dare ya!

Anyway, feeling good, sweaty, happy, and cinematically inspired. Time to write…
